To my sweetest baby girl

Happy Birthday!

One year ago I was 9 months pregnant, and so miserable, but so excited. I couldn't sleep, I just kept thinking of meeting you. I wanted to know what you would look like, what we would name you, how big you would be, and mostly just to hold you. Your birth day was long, a bit boring for a while, but then you came (fast!) and changed our lives forever. I can't imagine life without your sweet smiles, hugs, and even tantrums.
Your name means "loved" and everyone loves you. Grocery shopping takes forever because people stop and talk to you. I don't mind. I love hearing people say how cute you (and your sister too!) are.
I think the thing I have said most this year is, "I don't want her to get any bigger, I want her to stay little!" It's true, I love babies. But as you grow, you get even better, and you'll always be my baby.
So grow up little baby, and know that your mommy loves you the most.

The weekend in review

We moved in this weekend!!!!

I have a bedroom with a closet, a new bathroom, a new laundry room, and Aimee and Katie are sleeping in different rooms. I am a happy girl.

Also Jon cleaned for a few hours today, so it's also (mostly) clean. It was such a mess. I have an amazing husband.

Katie pushed the temporary gate we had up, and fell down half a flight of stairs. Amazingly she didn't even get any bruises. I went out and got a mounted gate.

Jon's parents watched Katie this evening, and I went to BabiesRUs and Home Depot ALL BY MYSELF. It was awesome. I think it was about 90 min of being out without the girls. That hasn't happened in so long, and I needed it.

And Katie finished the day by throwing up on me. Twice. It didn't even bother me.

Only one more week..........

So I am walking around my house, cleaning a little, getting the girls snacks, you know normal stuff. Then I hear it: the plastic is being pulled out of the door knob hole. Which means I have 4 seconds to run over to the door. I made it over just in time to see a carpet guy stick his head in. He looked over at me and said Oh, you scared me!

Really, I scared him? Can I just say how proud of myself that I kept my mouth shut?

Also, I wasn't wearing PANTS! (yes, I should probably know by now that it is not safe to go pant-less in my house during working hours)

I kindly asked him to shut the door, and I ran and threw on a pair of pants.

Hopefully this is the last Friday of the remodel... or I might go crazy.

The List

In the previous post I mentioned hula seventy and how I was in love with the blog. Well one of the reasons is that she makes lists of things to do before her next birthday. So I am shamelessly copying, and doing my own!

24 things to do before I turn 25

1. Paint a wall a color I really love.

2. Get my hair cut

3. Eat a Voodoo Doughnut

4. Buy something from Etsy

5. Read 5 non-fiction books

6. Read a book each day to Katie

7. Find a new band I love

8. Do a photo shoot with someone other than a relative or friend

9. Do the Apartment Therapy 8 step home cure

10. Make a piece of art to hang on our walls

11. Frame a picture Katie painted

12. Print off pictures of the girls

13. Send Christmas cards out before Christmas

14. Take the girls for a walk once a week

15. Recover dining chairs

16. Get out the advent calendar before December 1st

17. Take the girls to the coast

18. Go downtown and look at the lights

19. Make a pillow cover (knit or crochet)

20. Send thank you notes for all gifts received

21. Go to a concert

22. Make bread once a month

23. Learn how to make my favorite Thai food

24. Start the couch to 5k

Now that I posted it, I will actually have to do everything! I'm really excited. It was hard to think of the last few things, but all of them are things I really want to do! Wish me luck, and start your own list!

Being Inpired

With the remodel nearing completion, I have been scouring decorating books, magazines, and blogs. I'm going to have my own bedroom again, and I'm dying to make it something I really am in love with. In the apartments we lived in, we weren't allowed to paint, so this is so exciting for me. Plus I have a new bathroom, and the place where our bed is now will be a living/playroom.

It's exciting to say the least.

I thought I would put up some of my inspirations, and the awesome blogs I've found them on.

Oh, to live in this room. It's so beautiful it makes me hurt.

I love the mirrors.

I'm not sure I could pinpoint exactly what I love about this one other than the feel.

Just love this one.

This is possibly the cutest little girl's room ever. I love the lights.
From Hulaseventy She is from Portland, and I am in love with her blog. More on that later.

I am in love with this couch and ottoman. It's Ligne Roset Togo, and if I ever have thousands of dollars just lying around, I'll buy them.
From Domino

I used to be totally confused as to what my style is. I had two really opposite things I really liked. Actually, I still might not know what it's called, but I do know what I like. After lots of time clipping pictures, and trying to decide exactly what I liked about it, I've found I like: Lots of white, dark wood, splashes of colors, and low furniture. You would think I could have just figured that out, but I'm glad I got to find all these beautiful, inspiring things in the process.

Some Pictures

These are just from the little camera, and since we don't have photoshop back on the new computer yet, they are unedited. So sorry for red eyes and such.

Just a cute one of the two girlies.Katie's birthday. Present opening
Blowing out a (scented) candle
Family pic. Katie's face makes me laugh. And Aimee is plotting to eat the cookie.
They love each other

Trick or treating. Katie the ladybug eats her pillowcase. She seriously had it in her mouth the whole night. It was soaked. Ew.
And Aimee the bumblebee!
Katie's birthday party. She and Erica held hands and ran around in circles almost the whole time. And screamed. But they had fun!
Katie showing off some of her cool presents.

Free on Fursday!

That's what Katie's been saying this week, and it's finally thursday!

Happy Birthday Katie!!!!!

I can't believe she's three.

She started her day early, and had a tootsie pop for breakfast. She found it somehow, and came and showed us, she was so proud of herself.

When we got to work, she wanted cereal, so I stuck a candle in it, and Erica and I sang happy birthday to her. She thought it was fun, so we did it at lunch too. And she got a cute baby doll that she likes a lot.

We're going to Grandma's later to have a tiny party, and she watched a movie, so she should be pretty happy :)

Katie and Aimee both have news!

Katie is now pacifier free! And we managed it before she turned three. She still steals Aimee's at every opportunity, but she's getting better. If only potty training were so easy.

Aimee is officially a crawler. She started about two weeks ago, but just got really fast in the last week. She also learned how to pull herself up at the same time, so she spends most of her day crawling to different things and pulling herself up on them. She's getting more steady now, and lasts about a second standing before falling down. She is just so happy to be able to get around, and she follows me around all day.

My news is not nearly as exciting- I'm getting a root canal on Halloween.

Tagged

I was tagged by Katie!

1. I can't really smell. I can smell things if they are really strong and right under my nose. But, if I think about something I make myself smell it. If someone talks about pizza I start smelling it.

2. I get extreme satisfaction from buying things. Well actually, going shopping. I love shopping, and I buy stuff all the time. This is not good for our budget, so I also return about half of what I buy. I know, it's retarded, but I do it.

3. Since I love shopping, I always go SLOW. This drives people crazy I'm sure, but I like to think about every purchase I make, so I avoid returning more. The longer I take, the less I buy. Jae should never go shopping with me :)

4. I'm always surprised when I look in the mirror. I generally think I'm cute, then I look at myself, and think wow, not that cute.

5. When I eat up chicken there can't be any fat or veins or tendons on the part I eat. I waste a lot of it that way, but I can't bring myself to eat it if I can see it. I don't buy it that often now, because it takes forever to get all the fat off, and I throw away at least 1/3 of it. I think my mom would be horrified.

6. Dead fish freak me out. I literally will scream if you come at me with a dead fish. If it's alive it's ok, but I can't deal with dead ones. It totally grosses me out that people cook a whole fish and serve it to you like that, with the head STILL ON!! If it is still in the shape of the animal it came from, I can't eat it!

7. When we watch the Incredibles, I cry when the mom is on the plane with the kids and they're about to get blown up every time. I've seen it at least 15 times, and I've cried every time. Even if it's on and I'm not watching it, if I can hear it I cry. Not sobbing, but definitely tears. Also, I cry when people clap at the end of things. I think it's mosly standing ovations. I have no idea why this is, but it's embarassing!

I am pretty sure no one is going to want to be my friend after all this! I am weird! But it was fun anyway. I tag Emily, Andrea, Jessica, Molly, Kendra, Carly and Kara. And if you don't do it I think 7 random bad things will happen to you! Within 7 minutes of each other. Each lasting 7 seconds. So you better do it.

Pictures

Aimee standing up! She can do it for a while now, as long as she's leaning against something. She's still not really crawling, but almost.
Please ignore the huge stain down the front of her coat, it was a bean burrito tragedy.

Aimee loves swinging.
And "tater-totting" as Katie says. These veggies, plus green beans and bok choy and some noodles and pork became...
This. And it was good if I do say so myself. Greasy and yummy like Chow Mein should be.

Friends!

A couple weeks ago I went to dinner with a few friends I've known for a long time. It was really fun to catch up, and feel like I was a kid again for a couple hours. The only difference was a few husbands and 5 kids. (plus one more coming soon)
Anyway, Jessica's daughter Kadee and my Katie had so much fun together, they were little partners in crime. As I was watching them play I thought, wow, I'm pretty much my mom. I'm sure she and Jessica's mom watch us play together as little girls.
The girls coloringIt's hard to see Kadee, but she's in there too. They had so much fun hitting the balloons around. And then I had to have a waitress hold Aimee while I untangled Katie from the balloons. She wrapped herself all up, and it took a few minutes to get her out.
Jess, Ange, me and Em. I'm the only one without a good nickname!

I was going to scan some old slightly embarassing pictures, but the scanner isn't connected right now, and that is a job for Jon, not me. So you lucked out girls!

Water... or the lack thereof

Warning, this is kind of a complain-y post, so feel free to skip down to the last few paragraphs at the end. I won't feel bad!

As you may or may not know, the house we live at is under major construction. In the process, our water has been turned off multiple times. Last week, our water (which came in through a hose) was turned off and hooked up in it's new location, with pipes. When Jon tried to turn it on, nothing came out. So he went to check, and the plumbers connected the pipe in the wrong place, so when you turned on the water, it went around the house, and back up, and started pouring out underground at the pipe they just cut. I'm sure that didn't make any sense, but it's too boring to explain the whole thing, so suffice it to say, they totally messed up. And apparently don't check their work. Well, Thursday night, Jon's parents come over and notice the garage floor is soaking wet. The washer was not the culprit, so they look around and find the toilet in the garage is overflowing. After some plunging, and investigating, and a lot more overflowing when Jon tried to take a shower, we realized: every time water goes down a drain, it overflows out the toilet. So the garage is soaking in raw sewage. Awesome. And since we had no water, we had no toilet. Luckily (I guess) there is a bucks outside, which I had to use, and I can safely say was one of the grossest experiences of my life to date :) So the plumbers came Friday to fix it, and cleared out a clog, and I think put some new pipes. One of the contractors came around 5pm to tell us our water was back on. So I went and drained the water out of the washer, and I looked a couple minutes later, and water was pouring out of the toilet again. We tell the contractor, since the plumbers were long gone, not bothering to even check if they did it right yet again. So the saintly contractor stayed waiting for the plumbers to return, which I think they never did. We heard something in the front, and Jon went to check, and the contractor was digging with an excavator, and he eventually found a pipe that had been cut off, and dirt was coming into. So that might be the problem. He said the plumbers would be coming the next day to try and fix it. Meanwhile we went to Jon's parent's apartment, and spent the night. So later on Saturday, Jon goes back over to make sure we have water before we pack the kids back over, and IT'S NOT FIXED! (That is me yelling) The pipe is still cut, nothing was done. So we will be here at least until Monday, and who know if they'll actually fix it then! The thing that topped it all off, is there is a hole in our wall, where a door is going to go. It's normally covered with plywood. Well apparently while we were gone, the people doing the sheet rock took the plywood off, and just left with it off. I'm starting to think they just really hate us.
So that was a really long complaint to explain why we are not at home, and the pictures will have to wait. And, I'm not writing this just to complain, I do appreciate being able to live there, and I just want to remember so I can be really grateful when the remodel is done.
On a happier note, my mom got up really early and drove up and walked a 5k with me! She was feeling sick too, so thanks mom! It was really fun and I appreciated having her there!
Aimee can wave, and blow kisses now too. It is adorable. She's still not crawling, and I can't say I'm sad yet! She gets up on her hands and knees and rocks, so it's only a matter of time. And she can stand up if she's leaning on the couch or something. It's really fun. I forgot how fun this stage is. She's learning so fast. I do miss her being the tiny baby, but I love that she's interacting with us more.
Katie is either cracking me up or driving me crazy. Sometimes both at the same time. She's talented like that.

So here are a couple pics for you. You know you wanted them. The first two are from Miss Lucy's 1st Birthday. Happy Birthday Lucy!!!

Aimee just being a cute conehead. This kept the kids entertained for quite a while. So funny that the girls all hopped in the tub and the lone little boy at the party obliged and gave them all a ride. (with only a little help)

And this one, it's hard to tell, but she fell asleep while drinking her bottle, but one arm was still holding the bottle in. Aimee loves the bottles. Also, she's gaining weight again, and much happier. Which means we're all happier.

In other news, I am going to see some old friends this weekend, and I'm so excited! I'll be sure to get some pictures so you can see how cute we all are :) And you better believe I will dig up some old ones to show you too!

Changes!

Aimee was losing weight and is now a bottle baby. She loves them! And while it's sad that I'm not nursing anymore, now I get cute pictures like this one:
And continuing with Aimee, here is a picture from todayYes, she is asleep, UNSWADDLED!!!! Miracle of miracles. Apparently all she needed was to sleep on her tummy. This was for a nap, so we'll see how tonight goes.

My mom made this skirt for Katie (she made matching ones for all the grandgirls) Apparently Katie thought it would be better as a poncho!
And just one more cute one of the girls today
Katie has been smiling for pictures, and looking at the camera for the last few days, and I love it. It was driving me crazy that I couldn't get a good picture of her, so it's nice.

And finally, my hair. I found I can also bobby pin the bangs back too, which is nice. I don't have to look the same every day!

Update Time

Here's our news, good and bad.

1. New Car
New to us anyway. We just got it on Saturday, since our car was totaled. We had a navy blue Camry, and now we have a black Camry. We bought it off craigslist from some super nice people, so we're just kind of hoping it doesn't break anytime soon. The joys of being poor students!
2. New Hair
I was bored with my hair, so I cut bangs. I look SO different. I feel like I have a wig on. And I keep being surprised when I look in the mirror. I like it though, it's just weird. I'll post a pic later.
3. Katie's Stutter
She just within the last month or so started stuttering, and I spent a while on the internet researching, and she has a real stutter (not just normal dysfluency) since she repeats just the first syllable, not the first word. (Ex.- Are-are-are you going? as opposed to Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Are you going? Katie does the latter.) According to the Stuttering Foundation (which I had no idea even existed) there's a very good chance she'll outgrow it, since it started early. I also learned what to do (speak slower) and what not to do (don't interrupt or tell her to start over) The internet is awesome like that. So I'm a bit worried because it seems like it's getting more frequent and it's starting to bother her. She started putting her hand on her face when it gets bad. Poor girl.

More mirrors

What can I say, the girls like looking at themselves! I have no idea where they got that from...

Carousel

A while ago we went down to the carousel in Salem with some friends- I just wanted to share Katie checking herself out in the mirror :)

The car got a bonk

On my way to work Friday I got in an accident. It was just me and the girls, and amazingly we are all okay. I'm pretty sore, but that is it. I was trying to change lanes at the same time as a van, and I swerved away and then somehow went back into the lane, and we hit. It's still really blurry, I couldn't tell you for sure what happened. Then I ended up on the side of the road, I had gone up the embankment and slid back down. I think, at least. And I'm pretty sure I blacked out for a tiny bit, because the people who stopped said I was slumped over the steering wheel, and I don't remember that. Also, the first I remember they were already at the car. Anyway, I have run through all the emotions, shock, guilt, gratitude, fear, etc. Mostly I am glad the girls are fine. I just don't know what I would do without them. It really freaked Katie out. She has been talking about it constantly since, which I guess is good. She keeps saying, the car got a bonk, mommy was screaming, the truck (van) said GET AWAY! we're all okay, the car is broken, etc. It's weird and cool seeing her try to process everything that happened. But, I still feel so bad.

I am grateful
for the nice people who stopped and helped me, the firemen and police, and for my carseats. I don't want to imagine what would have happened if my girls were not in them. And now I'm going to get on my soapbox and talk about car seat laws. I will admit, I'm a bit anal about them. Here are Oregon's laws:

CHILD RESTRAINT LAW: (effective July 1, 2007) Child passengers must be restrained in approved child safety seats until they weigh forty pounds. Infants must ride rear-facing until they reach both one year of age AND twenty pounds.

BOOSTER SEAT LAW: (effective July 1, 2007) Children over forty pounds must use boosters to 4'9" tall unless they have reached age eight.

Each state is different, but most have new laws mandating car seat and booster use. You can find your state's law Here.

The safest place for kids is in the back seat, and in a car seat or booster. And these are LAWS, not recommendations. And if you live in Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio, South Dakota or Texas, please still keep your kids in car seats or boosters past age 3 and 4. It's just not safe. And I think a bit ridiculous that kids are allowed to use a regular seat belt at age 3. Also, you don't have to buy super expensive seats to keep your kids safe. Expense does not always equal safety. There are a lot of places online that can help you pick a good one. This one is a good place to start. As far as rear-facing goes, there is the standard of one year and 20 lbs, but there are new recommendations that say kids should be rear-facing until two years, and 30 lbs. You can find out more about that Here.

Thanks for reading if you got this far, and keep your kids safe!

08.08.08

It's 080808! I'm easily amused. And I got tagged.

1. What is your favorite fictional character from a book or movie?
This is so hard. I love characters. If it were TV, it would be Jim. Movies would be... ok, there are too many. I'll spare you.
2. What are your 3 best physical assets?
um... I like the color of my hair, my eyes, and hands. Random stuff.
3. Name 3 attributes you would be proud to pass on to your children:
My affectionate-ness, intelligence and my generally positive outlook on life. Don't I sound conceited!
4. Name 3 attributes that you hope not to pass on to your children:
My temper, laziness and procrastination.
5.If you had to give up one of the following things FOREVER, which would you choose?1. all makeup 2. flat iron/curling iron 3. razors (laser hair removal isn't an option):
This was the hardest question. There's no way I could go without 3, I'm way way too hairy, and dark haired at that. So I guess #2, because I absolutely had to pick. But that would be sad! :)
6. What do you think is your best quality?
I get over things very easily.
7. What is your worst quality?
I have not much patience, and it gets worse when I am sleep deprived.
8. What would be a perfect day for you?
One where I wouldn't have to work, Jon was home with me, the girls were gone for part of the day, and I could eat whatever I wanted without any consequences. And go shopping. And I had it on Monday!
9. Where is your favorite place you have ever visited?
I loved France, although I think I appreciated it more afterward, than while I was actually there. I would love to go back.
10. Name something you are really good at?
I'm good at editing pictures.
11. What are you most shallow about?
I don't know, I like pretty babies more than ugly ones? lol
12. What is something you're a little bit conceited about?
My two cute girls. They ARE the cutest!
13. Name 3 things you are embarrassed to admit:
1. I hate brushing my teeth, and sometimes I don't do it. Ew, huh. 2. I read blogs and don't leave comments most of the time. But in my defense, the main time I get on the computer is when I'm feeding Aimee, and it's hard to type! 3. I eat a ton of junky food, and sometimes I complain to Jon that I feel so fat after. I think Jae might hate me :)
14. Tag 3 people:
Kim, Rebecca, Kate and Leslie (I can count, but I really want to do 4!)

99. A Town Like Alice - Nevil Shute
100. The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas

I guess 29 is better than 6. A ton of these are on my to-read list. And a few of them I've seen the movie, but I'm sure that doesn't count!

Pictures

Both girls are napping, and I was going to exercise. Then I decided to put pictures on the blog and eat cookies instead. Go me.
Aimee is feeling better today, by the way, she hasn't had a fever at all! She's just sleeping a lot.
Ok, here are some recent ones of Katie.
Finally, a smile. That is my excellent taking pictures while driving skills. This one makes me laugh so hard every time I see it. She looks so funny.
And here is Katie in the same wig, like two years ago.
She fell asleep on the way home, while reading her book. Funny girl. I guess lambs do make you sleepy.
And here's a video of Aimee. Be warned, it's loud. But you get a little taste of what it's like living here during the remodel!

That took forever to upload!

Poor little Aimee

Aimee was sick all weekend with a fever, and just being fussy and not quite herself. I went to church yesterday, and she just lay there not moving much, but not asleep, and she was really hot. We came home and she stopped moving at all, and couldn't hold up her head or keep her eyes open. We took her temp and it was 104! So we called the Dr and ended up taking her to the ER. They checked her urine and did a chest x-ray (which she was NOT happy about) and eventually they found out she has a UTI and kidney infection. So she's on some antibiotics and in two weeks she'll have an ultrasound and a few x-rays on her kidneys. That will tell us if she has VUR (vesicoureteral reflux). That is when the urine goes back up into the kidneys. So anyway, we'll let you know then. She is feeling much better now though, the antibiotics seem to be helping.

Seven months

She is getting so old, it is so sad! I wasn't sad when Katie got older, but I want Aimee to be tiny forever. Anyway, here are seven things about her.
1. She smiles with her mouth wide open, and almost every picture I took had the same face.
2. She is very cuddly, and loves to be held.
3. Animal sounds make her giggle.
4. If you give her the right toys, she'll sit on the floor and play with them for 1/2 an hour.
5. She is mommy's girl. If I walk by she cries.
6. She can scoot herself backward when she's on her tummy. I'm so not ready for crawling.
7. She sleeps 7 hours in a row at night. I hope it continues to increase! And she's still swaddled for sleeping. People keep asking me when I'm going to stop, and they think it's weird. But she loves it, and goes right to sleep when she's swaddled. So I'm going to until she doesn't like it anymore!

Random Update

Katie fell off the swing yesterday. She leaned back and did a flip, and landed on her face. It was so sad, and some days I wonder if she'll even make it to 3! But she is tough, and about 5 minutes later she was begging to go back on the swing. She settled for the slide.
Then we were playing on the deck, and I found another wasp nest. In the eaves. So we went back inside, and there was a wasp in the bathroom!! How did it get there? I think they are stalking Katie.

Aimee has slept for about 7 hours in a row every night for the last two weeks. I love it! And, she can fall asleep without nursing. That took a while, but it's so nice now!

The house is coming along pretty fast now, they built the floor of the second floor already. Which is fun seeing it change so much in a day, but waking up at 7 am (which for night owls is brutal) to someone ripping the siding off the house which also happens to be 6 inches from your head- not so fun. It is so loud! Also, I'm writing this before I usually even wake up. Oh, one more thing. The guys working on the house like music- and to hear it over the nailing and such, it has to be really loud. (Notice a theme here?) So we sound like we are having a fiesta every day. Which is actually kind of fun!

I get headaches a lot. They make me so miserable, but then I take some ibuprofen, and 30 minutes later- bliss! I always feel so awesome after a headache has gone away. Really, I just feel normal, but it feels so much better than crappy! I recently realized it is the same with not being pregnant. I'm not one of those people who LOVE being pregnant. In fact, I hate it. I get huge (yes, everyone gets big, but my kids stick straight out of me, so I look like I'm having twins, plus my last kid was 9 lbs) and grumpy, and nothing works right. I love my babies, but if I could grow them outside my body I would. Anyway, nearly every day I wake up and feel excited that I'm not pregnant. I feel so good most of the time and I get giddy at the thought of not being pregnant again for a few years (or ever). I literally feel sick if I think about getting pregnant. So thank you IUD, marvelous little piece of plastic and hormones that keeps me from going insane.

Ok, all done. It feels better getting that all out!

Sad!

Katie got stung by a wasp today. We were playing on the deck, and all of a sudden she screamed. Somehow I knew immediately that it was a sting, before even seeing her hand. Anyway, I saw a wasp flying by her little table, so we went inside and I gave her a ring pop (thanks Lisa!) and put ice on her hand. We went outside again, and a few minutes later, I look down, and the wasp nest was under Katie's table! Freaky. So we all were banished inside. Katie is such a tough girl though, she didn't cry very long, and was totally fine after a couple minutes. She doesn't get that from me! At least I have a genuine reason to hate bugs!

And now pictures to make up for sad news!
I love this picture of Aimee she does this face all the time
Katie sandwich! Erica and Nickenstein.
These two are from Claire's party.

My nieces and nephews are so cute. I'm so glad a bunch of them live close,
and the others get to visit!
